Like most independent publishers, I don't have an unlimited budget to indulge myself with the latest and greatest technology. However, I do have to travel sometimes, and investing in the right tools can really make a difference in what I can accomplish when I'm on the road.

For Americans, it's Independence Day, but as an independent publisher every day is independence day. There are so many negatives that go along with being small, I think it's a good idea to take a moment to remind ourselves of all the positives that also go along with being independent.

I've recently been exploring the world of e-books with some success. While I'm certain I'll never give up traditional books entirely, I'm now convinced that there are some definite advantages to e-books. The best thing about e-books is that I can have one right NOW without having to drive to the bookstore.

I've always believed there was potential in e-books, but I've never been convinced that they would do away with traditional books altogether. With the advent of the Amazon Kindle, and other handy e-reader devices, not to mention the various utilities you can obtain for reading on laptops, mobile phones, and personal computers, the sales of e-books continue to rise, although, perhaps, slower than originally predicted.
